Ninjas in Pyjamas (NIP) has announced that Hampus “hampus” Poser will take a break from competitive play for the rest of the spring season. To fill the void, NIP has signed Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke to a long-term contract. The organization stated that hampus has been consulting with their performance director and medical professionals, and it was agreed that he needs a break from competition to ensure he has the time and space needed to get well and the team will support him during this time.
The news of Hampus “hampus” Poser taking a break from competitive play for the rest of the spring season, and the signing of Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke to fill the void, comes as a surprise to many. Hampus had left Ninjas in Pyjamas’ campaign at the BLAST Premier Spring Groups unexpectedly after just two matches, citing “unforeseen personal circumstances.” Young Ninjas member Max “maxster” Jansson stepped in for him at the event in Copenhagen.
This news is unexpected as Ninjas in Pyjamas had recently signed a new AWPer, Daniil “headtr1ck” Valitov, during the winter tournament break and the team seemed to be set for the foreseeable future. In interviews with HLTV.org earlier this month, Aleksi “Aleksib” Virolainen had shared his hopes that the team would not have any roster changes for a while, and the Chief Operating Officer Jonas “calc” Gundersen had built up expectations for the team for 2023.
However, calc also acknowledged the unexpected nature of the changes and stated that “There’s a silver lining, though. We just started the season and are still getting headtr1ck introduced, and k0nfig is a great player who fits the team well.”
