FaZe is set to face the winner of Cloud9 vs IHC in the lower bracket while G2 prepares to play at the Spodek Arena.
As the second and third-ranked teams in the world, both undefeated in 2023, G2 and FaZe entered their IEM Katowice Group A upper bracket semi-final. The two previously faced each other at the BLAST World Final in late 2022, with a split record.
G2 emerged victorious in the series, not losing a single map. They narrowly won Nuke, 16-14, and surprised on Ancient, a map they had only played once in the past trimester, resulting in a 4-16 defeat by FaZe. However, G2 looks stronger by the day and won this series in style.
FaZe started strong with a clean pistol win on the defensive side of Nuke, but G2 quickly regained control and went into halftime leading 9-6. The lead continued early in the defense, but FaZe managed to tie the score at 11-11. However, a clutch 1vs2 from Justin “jks” Savage gave G2 the advantage, leading to a 16-14 victory.
On Ancient, G2 lost the pistol round, but their star players NiKo, jks, and huNter- fired up their rifles and secured a 10-5 lead at halftime despite m0NESY not having much impact. After losing the second pistol round, G2 successfully won a forcebuy round and took control of the game, ultimately winning 7-16 and sending FaZe to the lower bracket.
G2 will now play in the playoffs at the Spodek Arena, waiting to find out their seeding in the Group A upper bracket final. Meanwhile, FaZe will face the winner of IHC vs Cloud9 in the second round of the lower bracket in the group of death.
